Methods to detect Alzheimer's Disease prior to plaque formation are desperately needed for diagnosis and screening of potential treatments. We have extended the use of manganese enhanced MRI (MEMRI) to a transgenic mouse model of Alzheimer's Disease (tg2576) for the detection of changes in manganese transport prior to recorded amyloid plaque accumulation. Our findings demonstrate that this method may be developed for the in vivo detection of axonal transport deficits in mouse models of Alzheimer's Disease.
