Recent methodological advances have enabled the use of a reference tissue such as skeletal muscle to quantify DCE-MRI pharmacokinetics. This study aimed to compare blood plasma concentration curves derived from muscle with that measured directly in the aorta, in order to validate the reference tissue approach. It was found that, within the uncertainties of the methodology, both measurements are equivalent using published values of Ktrans and ve in skeletal muscle.
