Use of Double Inversion Recovery for Characterizing Diffusion of Myelin Water

To develop more complete and accurate mathematical models of white matter it is necessary to obtain a more detailed charaterization of the intracompartmental NMR properties of white matter. In this study a novel method was used to determine apparent diffusion coefficients (ADC) for the myelin water compartment in toad sciatic nerve. ADC values were found for both parallel and perpendicular to the long axis of the nerve.
