Design of Localized Surface Gradient Coil for DWI of the Carotid Artery

Diffusion weighted imaging can be difficult to implement in vivo. It is especially difficult to use in imaging of the carotid artery as the T2 values in the neck are quite small. A surface coil, in the shape of a butterfly coil, is proposed. This coil would be used as a fourth gradient channel. The efficiency of the surface coil is calculated and compared to a general whole body gradient coil and a custom head gradient coil.
