The purpose of this study is to test the feasibility of simultaneous MR and Ultrasound (US) imaging for image guided therapies (IGT). Simultaneous capturing of multi-modal images potentially provides more information for real time IGT. We present a method for acquiring MR images in a known orientation with respect to US image and demonstrate concurrent real-time imaging in a phantom with both modalities. Preliminary results suggested that US and MRI can operate concurrently. Future directions include real time non-linear registration of US and MRI, active tracking and remote manipulation of US probe and biopsy needle.
