MR signal formation of voxels with partially volumed fat and water tissue was simulated to demonstrate the possibility of contrast amplifications by combining complex in-phase and opposed-phase data. A contrast gain up to a factor of 2 was observed in simulations and confirmed in phantom measurements. A dual echo sequence, which imposes no time penalty for dynamic MRI studies, can be used to calculate fat/water separations.
