To date, the only modalities routinely used for lung cancer radiation therapy planning are CT or CT in combination with FDG-PET. While MRI cannot match CT in terms of resolution, magnetization transfer prepared MRI (MT-MRI) could provide auxiliary functional information in non-small cell lung cancer patients. Our preliminary study shows the potential of MT-MRI in creating various contrasts in lung tumor masses, which otherwise appear homogenous in images from standard MRI sequences.
