Inflammatory pseudotumors in the liver are usually shown as a focal mass on conventional CT and MRI and are difficult to differentiate from neoplasms such as metastases and hepatocellular carcinomas. Interpreting the uptake of SPIO in the lesion due to the phagocytosis of macrophages is really useful in making correct diagnosis using SPIO-enhanced MRI. Applying additional diffusion weighted images after SPIO administration could be useful in detecting small liver tumors and in avoiding false-positive results due to small liver vessels.
