The voxel-based analysis was applied to investigate the association of gray/white matter (G/W) ratio and gray matter volume (GMV) with age in patients with first-episode, antipsychotic-naive schizophrenia. 20 schizophrenia patients and 21 normal controls were recruited, and high-resolution T1-weighted images were acquired using a 3.0T MR system. Our results revealed a disassociation of both global G/W ratio and GMV in frontal and temporal lobes with age in patients with schizophrenia, and this represents an abnormal neurodevelopment associated with these regions which may, in part, explain the impaired cognitive performance in the patients
