Due to the analogy between the design of spatially selective RF pulses and MR imaging, it is possible to adapt the methodology of parallel imaging for parallel trans-mission. Thus, in analogy to parallel imaging, the RF pulse calculation can be performed via direct matrix inversion or via iterative methods. This paper discusses the iterative approach in some detail and compares the two approaches for different scenarios. It turns out, that the matrix approach typically requires longer computation times than the iterative approach. On the other hand, in most scenarios, the resulting excitation accuracy is lower for the iterative approach.
