Transmit SENSE provides the capability to significantly accelerate multidimensional selective excitations and reduce RF power absorption. The design of the multicoil transmit RF pulses dependhowever on knowing the transmit sensitivity profiles of the coil array. Previous demonstrations have relied on being able to use a coil with a uniform transmit sensitivity as a reference. In contrast, we present a self-calibrating method that does not impose such restrictions, and is demonstrated to work robustly in the presence of significant dynamic range. The method is validated by demonstrating a large-tip transmit SENSE excitation on an eight-channel system.
