Design of Multi-Elements Transverse Field RF Surface Coils

We present a multi-elements transverse field figure-of-eight coil (FO8) RF surface coil design, composed by a number of parallel linear current elements positioned in the central region of the coil, that can be useful to select a well defined region of interest (ROI), and to improve the signal-to-noise ratio and the RF field homogeneity in the selected ROI. We demonstrate theoretically and experimentally that this design allows to obtain a ROI of higher sensitivity. Moreover, we show that the size and shape of the ROI can be adjusted by an appropriate selection of the number and spacing of the elements.
