This study investigates the effect of radiofrequency variations due to superposition of standing waves on coupled spin systems both theoretically and experimentally. Experiments performed include simulations, single voxel spectroscopy and spectroscopic imaging on healthy volunteers. Results show a decrease in signal intensity for coupled and uncoupled spin systems when voxels are placed further from the center of the brain. Coupled spin systems glutamate and glutamine experience larger intensity changes than single resonances.
