Assessment of Osteonecrosis Following Instrumentation for Femoral Neck Fracture Using Contrast Enhanced MAVRIC Sequences

Standardized radiographs markedly underestimate the incidence of osteonecrosis (ON) after fixation of femoral neck fractures. ON was identified using MAVRIC sequence in 75% of the patients, in 60% using FSE images and <1% using conventional radiographs. There was a significant underestimation of the identified ON volume using FSE compared to MAVRIC sequence (p=0.001).
