Normal aging is associated with changes both in micro-structure of white matter of the brain and in cerebral vasculature. We test the hypothesis that these processes are related by examining the association between fractional anisotropy (a diļ¬€usion tensor imaging measure of structural integrity) and pulsitility index (a transcranial Doppler ultrasound measure of abnormal arterial flow) in 70 years old and older adults free of stroke and dementia. We identified clusters of significant correlations between the measures, supporting this hypothesis.
