The benefits of the HASTE sequence applied to fMRI at 3T are investigated. Multiply-refocused sequences combine the advantage of being artifact free with the improved spatial BOLD signal localization of SE techniques. First in vivo results with visual and emotional stimulation paradigms indicate that (a) T2 weighted partial Fourier, parallel accelerated HASTE has at least equal BOLD sensitivity than SE-EPI, and (b) that VASO HASTE is markedly more sensitive to CBV changes than EPI based VASO.
