Trabecular bone volume fraction (TBVF) of 108 young children (age:2-12) was measured using a compact MRI operated at 0.21 T. The children were measured while sitting on a chair with their heels in the small magnet. Although not a few subjects gave motion artifacts on the MR images, TBVF of 69 subjects was successfully calculated and clear positive correlations of TBVF with age, height, and weight were observed. As a result it is concluded that the compact MRI is a very useful and may be exclusive tool for bone density measurements of young children.
