The metabolic profiles of preinvasive and invasive cervical cancer have been evaluated on ex vivo tissue samples using 1H and 31P magic angle spinning (MAS)-MRS. 1H spectra were acquired from all samples but samples larger than 20 mg were required to obtain quantiable 31P MAS spectra. In common with many other cancers we have found high levels of PE compared with PC, and that both PC and PE increase from pre-invasive to full cancer.
