Recently, functional BOLD MRI was introduced in a well-documented animal model for vocal learning, the songbird. The present study shows that fMRI can be used for neurocognitive research in songbirds by demonstrating auditory induced activation representing discriminatory properties of auditory regions of the telencephalon in zebra finch brain. The obtained fMRI results match with previously obtained IEG results of a study with the same experimental setup.
