In this work, utilizing three-dimensional full wave simulations, we optimize the drive ports of a 32-port volume coil in order to obtain localized excite field distribution within the volume of the human heart. With driving the coil with the optimized excitation, we show the excite field distribution inside the heart and inside a sizeable exterior rectangular volume, and demonstrate that excellent 3-D localization can be achieved in the heart. We conclude that the proposed excitation mechanism shows much potential in allowing MRI systems to selectively image abdominal organs at ultra high field strengths.
