Measurement of contrast-to-noise ratio using chaos theory based phase space reconstruction is proposed for fMRI quality assurance (QA). This analysis estimates the standard deviation of noise from the signal itself, rather than from a background window as in traditional Weisskoff signal-to-noise ratio. The effectiveness of this method for fMRI QA is demonstrated with data collected during multiple sessions using the SmartPhantom, a device which simulates BOLD contrast electronically.
