Seizures Induced by Chronic Pentylenetetrazol Treatment Result in Progressive Neuronal Injuries in Rat Hippocampus: An in Vivo 1H MRS Study

In this study, in vivo ¹H MRS was used to measure the NAA/tCr ratio in the hippocampus of rats treated with pentylenetetrazol (PTZ) for 28 days. The results showed that the PTZ-treated rats had significantly lower hippocampal NAA/tCr ratio than the control animals. The extents of neuronal injuries in the hippocampus of PTZ-treated rats appeared to be dependent on the history of the seizures occurred during the course of epileptogenesis.
