Drug Distribution Imaging of Anticancer Drug 5-FU Using 19F/1H Double-Tuned RF Coil

Imaging of ¹⁹F-labeled drug distribution was demonstrated using a developed ¹⁹F/¹H double-tuned RF coil and anticancer drug 5-FU administered rats. Fast spin echo with frequency selective pulses was used to efficiently obtain distribution images of 5-FU, its active anabolites, and its catabolites at the same time. The spatial change in signal intensity among several organs and tissue in images may be used to analyze the pharmacokinetics. The developed double-tuned RF coil will be a powerful tool for ¹⁹F-labeled compounds distribution imaging and pharmacokinetics research.
