The
use of susceptibility weighted imaging (SWI) in hypoxic-ischemic
encephalopathy (HIE) can give additional information about the varying
amounts of deoxyhemoglobin in cerebral veins as an indicator of metabolic
stress. Abnormal levels of deoxyhemoglobin (low or high) are correlated with
poor clinical outcome. This work compares different qualitative and
quantitative measures of venous visibility as an indicator of deoxyhemoglobin
levels and how it correlates with clinical outcome.
