Multivariate analysis of covariance was performed in addition to ANOVA to compositively evaluate brain morphological alteration indexed by surface area, curvature, cortical thickness, and subjacent white matter volume in groups of healthy ageing, mild cognitive impairment (MCI) converter and Alzheimers disease (AD). Age independent global rather than regional specific alterations were revealed to differ significantly among the aforementioned groups. MANCOVA may possess the potential powerfulness of differentiating MCI and AD from healthy ageing where single structural index was not adequate to do so.
