Monopole-drive for RF Ablation at 64 MHz

We present a novel monopole-drive mechanism to allow RF ablations to be performed at the proton resonance frequency, without the need for a ground pad. The monopole driver consists of a high-Q shielded LC tank circuit that can be interfaced with classic RF ablation probes and also allows the probe to be used as a transmit-receive coil in the MRI scanner. Imaging results show successful probe visualization using power levels as low as 0.4W, and phantom heating tests indicate that temperatures exceeding 60 o C can be achieved in less than six minutes with 100W drive power.
