We have recently established a novel method for quantifying lung parenchymal motion from a sequence of pulmonary MR images acquired over the respiratory cycle. By applying non-rigid registration algorithm, voxel-by-voxel deformation can be computed between successive MR images of the human lung. The purpose of this study was to explore the feasibility of this method to detect differences in regional pulmonary parenchymal motion during free breathing in both supine and prone postures.
