Rat mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) line expressing a luciferase gene under the control of a Heat Shock Protein 70 minimal promoter were injected in the rat renal artery. The kidney was locally heated by MRI-guided focused ultrasound. Induction of expression of the luciferase gene was demonstrated in the heated region using histological examination.
