A fMRI study using an auditory paradigm was conducted on eight volunteers in order to compare functional imaging capabilities of two scanners: a Siemens Magnetom Avanto and a Magnetom Symphony. Sequence parameters and stimulus volumes were matched between the two scanners. The results demonstrated different patterns of activation that changed with increasing stimulus volume. This was attributed to the differences in gradient acoustic noise between the two scanners, and its interaction with the subjects perception of the stimulus.
