Prepolarized MRI has the potential to produce diagnostic quality images of human extremities using an inexpensive pulsed magnet system consisting of water-cooled copper electromagnets. We adapted GRE, spin echo, RARE and STIR techniques to produce T1- and fat suppressed T2-weighted wrist images with clinical resolution and scan time on our 0.4T/0.13T prepolarized MRI system. We also demonstrated the ability of PMRI to image near metal objects in vivo.
