Conventional MRI near implants suffers from severe artifacts that scale with scanner magnetic field. Prepolarized MRI (PMRI) is a new system that reduces artifacts near metal without sacrificing image quality. Here we present the first in vivo images that demonstrate PMRI images near metal orthopedic hardware and compare artifact and diagnostic image quality to images from a 1.5 T scanner.
