A number of methods have been proposed to label cell for cell tracking in vivo. Previously, chemical biotinylation of cells has been used for the isolation and study of cell surface proteins. This relatively fast and simple method can however be readily modified as a rapid and relatively cheap method for the generic labelling of cells for MRI techniques. In this study, the feasibility of imaging chemically biotinylated cells in vitro and in vivo by MRI is demonstrated.
