An in vivo diffusion tensor imaging study was performed on nine healthy volunteers and three chronic optic neuritis patients at 1.3 mm3 isotropic resolution. Increased mean water diffusivity associated with decreased diffusion anisotropy was observed in the injured eyes of the patients.
