Partial Volume Correction for 23 Na MRI of Human Brain

The tissue sodium ( 23 Na) concentration is of great interest in biomedical research. However the 23 Na nucleus has a low MR sensitivity and fast relaxation times which requires larger voxel sizes in 23 Na MRI. Thus, partial volume effects reduce the accuracy of concentration measurements. In this work, a partial volume correction method was transferred to 23 Na MRI, optimized and tested in phantom measurements and simulations as wells as in 23 Na MRI of the human brain. The study showed good correction capability for phantom and in-vivo data.
