Hierarchical network analysis: Is activity in node A necessary or sufficient for activity in node B?

We present a novel framework for analyzing the
hierarchical relationships between nodes in a brain
network in terms of how 'necessary' and 'sufficient'
they are for each other. Here, we characterize and
demonstrate the feasibility of this framework in
simulated and experimental BOLD FMRI data.
