Noninvasive Imaging of Angiogenesis with a 3 Integrin-targeted Multi-modality Nanoprobe in Myocardial Infarction Model

Angiogenesis is defined as blood vessel formation from a pre-existing vasculature, the formation of which can promote the recovery of cardiac blood flow after myocardial infarction. Proliferating endothelial cells highly express a number of integrins associated with angiogenesis, of which ͦ3 has been shown to be particularly important. Cyclic peptide containing an arginine-glycine-aspartic acid (cyclic RGD) sequence has a high affinity to ͦ3 integrin. The objective of this study was to design and develop a novel cyclic RGD probe based multi-modality imaging for evaluation of angiogenesis in myocardial infarction model.
