Methylene blue (MB) has unique energy enhancing and antioxidant properties and has recently been shown to reduce neurobehavioral impairment in animal models of Parkinson's and Alzheimers Diseases. We recently showed that MB has significant effect on hemodynamics, metabolic activity, and evoked responses in vivo using MRI. The goal of this study was to evaluate the neuroprotective effect of MB treatment in ischemic stroke. We tested the hypothesis that MB treatment delays infarct growth in a permanent stroke in rats.
