Synopsis

Keywords: Cartilage, MSK, Data Harmonization

Motivation: Longitudinal T and T2 measurements can help to understanding hip cartilage degeneration. However, inter-scanner variability introduces biases, complicating data interpretation.

Goal(s): Harmonize scanner-related batch effects in longitudinal hip cartilage T and T2 data over an eight-year follow-up.

Approach: The longitudinal ComBat method was used to mitigate scanner-induced biases and ensure data consistency.

Results: ComBat harmonization effectively reduced scanner biases. Analysis showed an increase in T1ρ and T2, particularly in females aged 50 and above.

Impact: The harmonized longitudinal T1ρ and T2 data provides insights into hip cartilage degeneration, aiding in understanding osteoarthritis progression.
