Quantitative T2 and T1 brain mapping based on two fast 3D GRE scans with single and dual steady-states – a robustness study of human imaging at 7T MRI

Motivation: Mapping the biochemical environment in the brain, based on T2 and T1 relaxation times, is crucial for diagnosing various physiological conditions. 7T MRI provides enhanced resolution but prone to high B1 inhomogeneity.

Goal(s): This study aims to develop a method for fast high-resolution imaging at 7T MRI, simultaneously estimating T2, T1, and B1.

Approach: Two gradient-spoiled 3D GRE scans with small phase increment during the RF pulse train– one dual and one single steady-state– were used to estimate simultaneous T2, T1, and B1 mapping.

Results: The method’s robustness was assessed in-vivo, with repeated scans separated by ~60 minutes, showing a deviation of 4.74%.

Impact: This study introduces a method based on fast dual-steady-state GRE scan for 7T MRI that simultaneously estimate T2, T1, and B1. The robustness of the method in-vivo was assessed.
