The Correlation between Deep White Matter Hyperintensity and Hemodynamic Measurements of Perforating Arteries in Patients with CSVD

Synopsis

Motivation: The correlation between the severity of deep white matter hyperintensity (DWMH) and the hemodynamic measurements of the penetrating arteries remains unclear.

Goal(s): To investigate the correlation between hemodynamic measurements in perforating arteries and DWMH using phase-contrast-MRI (PC-MRI) on 7.0 T MRI.

Approach: The blood flow velocity and pulsatility index of perforating arteries were assessed by using PC-MRI. The correlations between hemodynamic measurements in perforating arteries and DWMH were analyzed.

Results: The pulsatility index of the perforating artery was positively correlated with the DWMH scores. The maximum blood flow velocity of the perforating artery was negatively correlated with the DWMH scores.

Impact: Understanding the correlations between the hemodynamic measurements of the perforating arteries and the severity of DWMH may help to further understand the mechanism of cerebral white matter hypersensitivity.
