Ultra High Contrast MRI for Detecting Symptomatic Mild Traumatic Brain Injury.

Synopsis

Motivation: Symptoms following a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) can be debilitating. Unfortunately current MRI imaging technique are unable changes due to mTBI.

Goal(s): Our goal was to determine if ultra high contrast (UHC) MRI can identify patients symptomatic from mTBI.

Approach: We performed a retrospective, case-control study on symptomatic mTBI patients and asymptomatic volunteers without a history of mTBI.

Results: UHC identified the patients in the symptomatic mTBI cohort.

Impact: UCH MRI may be useful for identifying patients symptomatic from mTBI. This has potential implications for determining return to play in athletes and managing treatment in chronic sufferers. Validation of disease is also important for patient well-being and insurance reimbursement.
