Synopsis

Keywords: MR-Guided Focused Ultrasound, MR-Guided Interventions

Motivation: The symptoms of dysmenorrhea, infertility and hypermenorrhea caused by adenomyosis seriously affect the daily life of patients. Therefore, there is an urgent need for an effective non-invasive treatment of uterine adenomyosis.

Goal(s): To investigate the safety and efficacy of Magnetic Resonance-Guided High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS) treatment on adenomyosis.

Approach: MRgFUS was performed on 62 adenomyosis patients to observe the adverse reactions during treatment, the changes of uterine size and improvement of dysmenorrhea.

Results: All 62 patients successfully underwent MRgFUS treatment without severe adverse reactions(average ablation rate 69.12%±17.64%). Post-treatment uterine volume and dysmenorrhea scores showed statistically significant improvements compared to pre-treatment (p<0.05).

Impact: MRgFUS is safe and effective in the treatment of uterine adenomyosis, and is a new non-invasive treatment approach.
