Post Treatment MRI Markers of Collateral Status Related to Adverse Events and Outcomes in Large Vessel Occlusion Acute Ischemic Stroke (LVO-AIS)

Synopsis

Motivation: In large vessel occlusion acute ischemic stroke, LVO-AIS, FLAIR hyperintense vessel sign (FHVS) and susceptibility weighted imaging brush sign (SBS) are well studied independently but their combined utility is underexplored.

Goal(s): Our purpose is to assess a) the relationship amongst FHVS and SBS in LVO-AIS and b) their utility as prognostic biomarkers of post-stroke complication and clinical outcomes.

Approach: In this retrospective study we use single and multivariable logistic regression to examine FHVS and SBS while accounting for patient and AIS treatment factors.

Results: FHVS is a significant predictor of less favorable NIHSS shift, 90-day mRS and lower risk of hemorrhagic transformation.

Impact: Preliminarily we demonstrate a relationship between FHVS and LVO-AIS complications and outcomes when accounting for patient and imaging factors. Post treatment MRI signs related to nuances in underlying tissue properties may thus help inform further patient assessment and treatment.
