Exploration of the Boundaries of Glioma through T1ρ-weighted Dynamic Glucose-enhanced MR Imaging

Synopsis

Motivation: The identification of glioma real boundaries is difficult. The prevailing understanding is that the metabolic margin more accurately defines its true extent.

Goal(s): To explore the physiopathology of the mismatch boundary observed in T1ρ-weighted dynamic glucose-enhanced MRI and T1-weighted contrast-enhanced imaging and to identify the optimal glucose solution concentration for contrast-enhanced MRI.

Approach: T1ρ-weighted dynamic glucose-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging on animal model.

Results: T1ρ-DGE MRI with the administration of 10% D-glucose solution effectively delineated glioma boundaries. The discrepancies in T1ρ/CET1 were linked to pathological manifestations of malignant transformation, may suggesting an initial stage of tumor infiltration accompanied by hypoxia formation.

Impact: T1ρ-DGE MRI acted as a non-invasive visualized imaging tool for the identification of glioma boundaries. T1ρ-DGE MRI holds considerable potential for tumor margin, infiltration, and metabolism of glioma, as well as therapeutic strategies.
