Motivation: Kidney diseases require accurate perfusion quantification, but traditional imaging methods using contrast agents are unsuitable for some patients. A safe and motion robust non-contrast ASL technique is needed to assess renal perfusion.
Goal(s): Develop and validate a non-contrast renal perfusion imaging method using an interleaved Stack-of-Stars acquisition scheme combined with Time-SLIP ASL and T2Prep modules.
Approach: Implemented the sequence on a clinical 3T MRI scanner. Optimized imaging parameters through phantom studies. Conducted in-vivo scans to assess renal perfusion in multiple pulsed delays.
Results: The technique successfully implemented and accessed renal perfusion quantification. Interleaved acquisition enhanced motion robustness, eliminating the need for respiratory gating.
Impact: The proposed non-contrast imaging technique provides a safe and effective alternative for renal perfusion assessment, benefiting patients unsuitable for gadolinium-based contrast injection studies and potentially becoming an alternate tool for diagnosis.
