Use of Multi-Modal Non-Contrast MRI to Predict Functional Outcomes after Stroke: a study using DP-pCASL, DTI, NODDI, and MAP MRI

Synopsis

Motivation: There is a limited understanding of how kw variability after acute ischemic stroke
(AIS) impacts recovery.

Goal(s): This study aims to determine the relationship between kw and functional outcomes
measured by the modified Rankin scale (mRS) in the AIS population.

Approach: 22 AIS patients enrolled from 1/2022 to 4/2024 underwent DP-pCASL, DTI,
NODDI and MAP imaging on a 3.0-Tesla scanner.

Results: Multivariable linear regression identified lower kw, higher time to MRI and larger stroke
volume as predictive of higher mRS. Higher CBF, QMSD, and RTAP, and lower SD RTAP,
RTPP, and NG were most predictive of kw.

Impact: This study demonstrates kw‘s potential as a functional outcome predictor in patients with AIS.CBF, QMSD, and RTAP, SD RTAP and NG were predictors of kw. Larger studies are needed tounderstand these relationships and kw‘s usefulness in clinic settings.
