Synopsis

Keywords: Low-Field MRI, Body, Organ Segmentation, organ morphometry, organ modelling

Motivation: To protect the vital torso organs from ballistic and stab threats, personal protective equipment needs to ensure optimal coverage. Such optimisation should consider the variation in organ position and morphology due to change in body size, posture and breathing patterns across population, rather than following an universal approach.

Goal(s): To conduct a proof-of-concept study exploring the applicability of Upright Open 0.5T MR scanner in understanding internal organ morphometry.

Approach: We aim to quantify the change in organ positions and boundaries as compared to fixed external markers for three body sizes and two breathing patterns while participants are in supine and standing position.

Impact: Understanding the changes in torso organ morphology and position using upright and supine scans at Open MR could improve the fit, form and anatomical coverage of personal protective equipment and protect security and defence professionals against ballistic and stab threats.

For one year after publication, abstracts and videos are only open to registrants of this annual meeting. Registrants should use their existing login information. Non-registrant access can be purchased via the ISMRM E-Library.

After one year, current ISMRM & ISMRT members get free access to both the abstracts and videos. Non-members and non-registrants must purchase access via the ISMRM E-Library.

After two years, the meeting proceedings (abstracts) are opened to the public and require no login information. Videos remain behind password for access by members, registrants and E-Library customers.
