Synopsis

Keywords: Low-Field MRI, Low-Field MRI, Halbach Array, CoilGen, Open Source, Training, MagTetris

Motivation: Limited access to affordable MRI training education, solutions & expertise in low-resource settings impedes local capacity building, constraining the development of skilled professionals & hindering the democratization of MRI technology & advancement of healthcare improvements in LMICs.

Goal(s): Leveraging open-source tools to enhance mri education & expertise, fostering mri technology democratization in LMICS.

Approach: We modelled & optimized 10 small Halbach magnet rings using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, & the MATLAB-based MagTetris. Designed & simulated 10 gradient coils using CoilGen, RF coils in COMSOL Multiphysics, & installed MARGE for the MaRCoS GUI intuitive control.

Results: We successfully designed & implemented a cost-effective, durable 10-ring mini Halbach MRI system using open-source tools, enhancing MRI education.

Impact: We leveraged open-source MRI tools & to enhance understanding of MRI physics and low-field MRI construction in LMICs. By providing accessible, hands-on training, it empowers local communities with the skills needed to advance sustainable MRI solutions in resource-limited settings.
