Keywords: White Matter, Brain, LE8
Motivation: Low life’s essential eight (LE8) may contribute to lower brain health, but the mechanisms are largely unknown.
Goal(s): This study investigated the association between LE8 and variation in brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) characteristics.
Approach: This study included 3,736 participants aged 40-70 years from a prospective cohort study. The authors primarily assessed the rate of the variation of MRI, and further assessed the direction of the variation.
Results: The LE8 score was negatively correlated with the rate of change in most brain MRI. And it was also associated with the direction of brain MRI variation, especially FA, MD values.
Impact: This study employed a prospective cohort to elucidate how the LE8 score influences the characteristics of brain MRI characteristics. Consequently, the eight modifiable factors offers a potential pathway for individuals to actively improve or preserve their brain health.
