Synopsis

Keywords: New Devices, New Devices

Motivation: The AeroSwitch introduces a novel pneumatic mechanism for RF switching, addressing limitations of existing PIN diode-based RF switches used in MRI applications.

Goal(s): This study aims to develop and evaluate a pneumatic RF switch as an alternative to a PIN Diode focusing on heat generation and signal quality.

Approach: By eliminating the need for small circuitry components, the AeroSwitch offers an improved signal quality with reduced noise and nonlinearity associated with the intrinsic characteristics of PIN diodes.

Results: The AeroSwitch had improved performance with lower heat generation and isolation across a frequency range, becoming a promising alternative for non-magnetic and high-power MRI applications.

Impact: By replacing PIN diodes with the AeroSwitch, RF coils and interface circuits can significantly reduce resistance and electrical component interference, potentially leading to enhanced image quality and more versatile functionality.
